CAPTURED MOMENTS

Pizza, PAL & Pambansang Awit

Posted on: June 6, 2005

Friday, June 3

Jerry and I are trying to establish a pattern of eating out every Friday since I started working again. Today was no exception. This time, we tried La Tegola at Mactan, an Italian restaurant where we shared a plate of seafood pasta (marinara) and bruschetta.

For an Italian restaurant, La Tegola’s pizza wasn’t all that expensive. Our total food bill just amounted to about P300 without drinks.

Now try buying pizza for the same price at Pizza Hut, Greenwich or Shakey’s and I’ll say it’s not even half as good as what we had. Wanna bet?

I couldn’t get enough of the mouth-watering appetizer

I flew to Manila this afternoon for a week of training at our company’s Paranaque head office. It’s been a long time since I went on an official trip and I was quite hesitant to leave my boys, especially Jake, who was still taking his antibiotic for loose BM. But this was something I had to do. Boo. I left after making sure that Jake was a little better and not after Jerry assured me everything would be fine.

Though sick, Jake didn’t look it while horseplaying with the steering wheel.

Today was the 1st day of orientation for new hires. Even if I got on board last May 16, I still had to attend this mandatory course/training like the rest. There were about 50 attendees from the different companies under the group.

There were interesting facts about the company that I learned. And I keep learning about new things and the company’s culture as each day at work unravels. With what has been said about the group so far, I think it’s safe to say I’m in good hands.

Am glad that Mr. Bert Lina, owner of Air 21 and the others of the Lina Group of Companies, has impressed upon his employees LOVE OF COUNTRY, or patriotism, the fast vanishing kind of character trait among Filipinos.

I understand the multi millionaire businessman is also encouraging charity, unity and fraternity among all his wards. Haven’t your co-employees thought they have a saint for a big boss?

Maybe this could be the reason PGMA appointed him the new Customs Commissioner. Am sure you will feel at ease and enjoy your work as its Corporate Service Manager. Congrats!

wow, you’re in Manila???? galing!

hmmmm….the pizza and pasta sauce is any better than the ones you took in Rome, Venice, Florence and Pisa? aber?

Panatang Makabayan…iniibig ko ang Pilipinas…dare nga to finish the whole thing?

nakakagutom naman yang pictures!!!

dito ka pala sa manila. have fun in the land of MMDA!!!

JUNNIE: The pizza & pasta in La Tegola I would say was better than the one we had in Italy 🙂 Coz this was hot…the one’s we had there were usually cold na. However, the ambience in Italy is breathtaking! A must see again place!

Hi Nok! Mouthwatering post…I even included the La Tegola pizza in the list of food adventures for Christine. The boys are doing ok…Jake is recovering na, Kyle’s yayay is hopefully getting better, Matts is still eating all our food and I’m looking forward to seeing you on Friday!

hi linnor! the pizza looks delicious!

i’m sure you can’t wait to be home again!! have a safe trip back to cebu! 🙂

to junnie: i’ll give your dare a try..

Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas
Ito ang aking lupang sinilangan.
Ito ang tahanan ng aking lahi.
Ako’y kanyang kinukupkop at kinakalinga.

Nyarks. Di ko na maalala.. Kahiya-hiya. 😦

HI PAPARAZZI!
I do feel at ease now and enjoy my work as Corporate Services Manager. Thanks! 😉

HI JUNNIE!
Yes, I’m in Manila after almost 10 months since my last visit. The last one was before you and Mitzi migrated to Canada remember? Time really flew by no, and so many things have happened since then.

I agree with Jerry, the food we had in Italy was authentic but was lacking in that flavor we Filipinos are used to. Tapos mahal pa. Hehehe… I remember how horrible I felt after eating a cold plate of risotto. Was it supposed to be that cold, oily and bland? Baka nataon lang. Hehehe… 😛

HI JOJO!
Oo nga eh. When I look at the pics parang I could still imagine the flavor and texture of the pizza and appetizer. Hahaa!

Ey, I’m quite surprised that I haven’t experienced the usually heavy Manila traffic since I got here. Sana laging ganun. 😀

HI JERRY!
Yey, those were very good news! I am also looking forward to seeing you here on Friday and taking that long drive with you to Subic. Parang gustong sumama ni Paparazzi and May/Zia kahit na official hub tour ko yun. 😀

HI TIN/JUNNIE!
Thanks!

Panatang makabayan
Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas
Ito ang aking lupang sinilangan
Ito ang tahanan ng aking lahi
Ako’y kanyang kinukupkop at tinutulungan
Upang maging malakas, maligaya at kapaki-pakinabang

O HA! Tama kaya pinagsusulat ko?

Nok! You must remember the Panatang Makabayan coz you are tutoring the kids in Filipino…and that’s usually their 1st lesson! 🙂

hahaha, on jerry’s comments.

10 months na yun? bilis noh?

hi Linnor! I am impressed! You still know Panatang Makabayan? I can only remember the first line I think! The pizza looks good, yum!

HI JERRY!
Oo nga no? Back to school na naman so we’re back to tutoring the bugoys. 🙂

HI JUNNIE!
Hopefully with my new job I’d be able to fly to Manila more often both for business and for pleasure. Then sa Canada naman. Hehehe…

HI CHRISTINE!
Chamba lang yan and it took me a long time before I was able to complete it. Napaisip baga ng napakatagal complete with papikit-pikit at patirik-tirik ng mata as I tried my best to recall the lines. 😀

Ang sweet naman ni Jake, he drove you pa to the airport, hehehe 🙂 super cute photo!

wow, that is indeed rare, gathering the employees for pambansang awit. i’m glad you’re getting more comfortable with work and your employer.

i’m getting more amazed at how many good restaurants there are in cebu. ang sarap dalawin!

uy, bukas kita na sila ni jerry for the subic trip…excited ka na ba, linnor? i hope the weather would be good for both of you to enjoy. galing mo naman sa panatang makabayan…ako i can remember the last line “sa isip, sa salita at sa gawa.”…the rest medyo di ko na matandaan…di ako papasang tutor nung mga boys mo…kakahiya! 😀

That appetizer looked yummy. The texture looks like it would be similar to Indian papadam. Am I right?

The pizza looked good too, but I got hyper-acidity just looking at all that sauce. For some reason, I am very sensitive when it comes to tomato sauce, which gives me an acid feeling in my stomach, as well as makes me belch a lot.

HI BEABEAR!
Jake loves playing with big people’s things rather than his baby toys. He’d always want to tap on the computer keyboard or play with the steering wheel every chance he gets. Hay, kids… 😀

HI VANGIE!
It was a different experience being there to hear the employees sing the Pambansang Awit and recite the Pledge.

Yes Cebu is really a place for great dining experience. I hope you get to visit the place someday. 🙂

HI ANNABANANA!
It was a long drive to Subic with Jerry but we did a lot of sightseeing on top of the official hub tour I was scheduled to have. Then off to Clark we went where we checked out the duty free shops. Hehe… No we didn’t splurge. We just bought a few shirts for Matt and Kyle for USD1.00 and USD.59 a piece. Steal huh?! 😀

HI RENEE!
It’s made of flour tortilla. Is that what an Indian papadam is made of? I’m prone to hyper-acidity too but surprisingly, I didn’t have an attack even if I finished off 2 huge slices! 😛
