Weekend Here We Come

Coming home
We pass the Marcelo Fernan bridge everyday on our way home from work. This is the second bridge connecting Cebu Province to Mactan Island.

Aahh Friday! Don’t you just love the weekend? No grand plans are lined up for this one but the free days are much appreciated just the same. Time to sit and laze around the house and just enjoy being with the boys.

TGIF! Have a great weekend to you all as well!

I have another way of looking at the modern Marcelo Fernan Bridge. That in any relationship be it at home, in the office and even with anyone, it is a lot better to build BRIDGES than to build WALLS.

I just could not imagine what life would be in Mactan Island or in Cebu and vice versa without those two bridges.

Again, so that God may be exalted and glorified, let’s build BRIDGES not WALLS! Amen? πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

uy, i miss cebu too! went to school there for awhile, then worked there in 1994. i bet there are major changes that i may not recognize the city anymore!

that’s true, relaxed weekends are as good as having planned activities outside of the home. we live for the weekends!

Flora Purim sang Bridges soo many years ago…and she said…”and I’m certain there must be, Bridges made out of Love!”…If only everybody thinks like Paparazzi & Flora Purim what a wonderful world this would be! πŸ™‚

Amen! That’s a good way of looking at the Marcelo Fernan bridge. πŸ™‚

Let’s see… Aside from the 2nd bridge, Cebu now has flyovers, and several malls other than SM, Ayala and Gaisano. There is a business park and an IT park. Cebu Plaza Hotel is now closed. There are several new hotels now like Marriott and Waterfront (Mactan and Lahug). There are several night spots too – the Village, Crossroads and Banilad Town Center… Yeah, a lot have changed in the past 10 years…

Right on! When you have the weekend to look forward to, the weekdays seem to whiz by. πŸ˜‰

I hope the people behind the gloriagate fiasco think that way too! πŸ˜›

I remember 1990 when Cebu didnt have this bridge and the older bridge got a crack on its side when a wayward tanker hit it during a very strong typhoon. I was in one of the last flights out of Cebu then. (which was the same year of Pinatubo (June 12) and the Earthquake (July 16).

Cebu got back to its feet in no time, and this bridge was erected so quickly it erased any memories of how that typhoon left millions homeless but only left great memories of the resilience of Cebuanos.

Whenever I see this bridge, I know im in Cebu and close to being with my great bugoy nephews!

Thankfully, Cebu is not in the path of typhoons. But one of those typhoons that did hit the province, and that most Cebuanos would remember for a long time, was Ruping. It got a lot of people marooned on these two islands. And to worsen the experience, there was a power blackout for several days.

Just as you said, it brought out the best in the Cebuanos, most specially their resilience.

Looking forward to the day that you and Mitzi will cross this grand bridge again. πŸ˜€

i remember my last telecom assignment in ormoc, we didn’t catch our plane back to manila, but as soon our supercat fast ferry from ormoc, passed the bottom of this bridge which was still on construction back then in 1999, the middle slab are not there yet, i remember my Dad told me when he set his foot in Cebu, and after the construction of the osmena bridge…where he set his foot also….,during those time coming to cebu was a dream…from every ormoc boys during those days….

You do have fond memories of Cebu. If you come for a visit, you’d be surprised at how Cebu developed in recent years. πŸ™‚

Wow! How clean this place is! I’m impressed! πŸ™‚ I know of a parent who’s from Cebu and is there at this very moment with his two kids. Wish we could be there visiting too.
