daing galore, originally uploaded by gratitude.

Since most of the business establishments were closed on Nov. 1, we thought of driving to Tabo-an in downtown Cebu to buy some “pasalubong” that Pa could take back to his employees…

If you are fond of dried anything (fish, squid, etc) and you’re in Cebu, then this is the place to get a hold of the object of your cravings.

which one to get?…., originally uploaded by gratitude.

Don’t be fooled by the confused look on Paparazzi’s face. The place may be the most offensive smelling area in the market but Pa surely was in “danggit” heaven! He actually bought a few kilos of different kinds. I can only shake my head when I recall his 2002 quadruple heart bypass. Watch your diet Pa!

How come there are some things that taste good but smell bad? Do you have a particular favorite food like that?

Nice photos of Tabuan (market place, Cebu City)that looks like a Columbarium of sea products!

Yes, bought some 3 kilos of unsalted dried Danggit, Dilis and Pusit specially packed as my pasalubong for my K of C brother-friends.

And you know what? They all like these dried products from Bantanyan island. They intimated that even if all smell like hell but certainly all taste like heaven (parang Durian). πŸ™‚

punta na kasi tayo kina minoy =)

fresh durian fruit is a favorite. tastes good but some can’t stand its smell. same with marang =)

when we went for our honeymoon trip to Cebu some years ago, hubby made sure we’d go to this place to buy danggit. nadala ko pa nga sa jakarta eh πŸ™‚

i love danggit, too, especially if its cooked extra crunchy, yummy!

my smelly fave foods are: tinapa, tuyo, daing, patis (most fish products talaga notorious for the smell) and bagoong (when being sauteed). i am also taking a liking to cajun food, pero i dont like the smell of the spices – pikit ilong na lang pag kumakain. πŸ™‚

Oooh I like danggit! I havent been to tabo-an yet since I arrived in cebu last Oct. I will pay a visit later once I am or Odd going back to Norway so we can take some with us.

we just had that in Cebu a couple of months back…sarap! just to make an exaggeration, i can smell daing/danggit all the way from there to here in Canada…wahahaha

I know how you love danggit… It’s always your requested pasalubong everytime I visit you in Manila. Buti na lang minsan na lang ang visit ko… Heheheh… Joke! Basta remember to eat in moderation…

Invite mo kami when you go next time! Hahaha! Mamimilit ba? πŸ˜€

If you packed it really sealed tight, they wouldn’t notice it in you handcarried luggage. Kami, to make sure it doesn’t “contaminate” our clothes, checked-in na lang ang danggit. πŸ™‚

Yes, extra crunchy is the key! If its “makunat” I don’t really like it… We have the same list for smelly fave foods. πŸ˜€

Good to know you’re in town! πŸ˜‰

You don’t see danggit ba in Canada? Would you want me to send a danggit package to you? Hehehe.

Dried fish din. Tuyo!

I love DANGGIT!!! Natakam ako sa pics.

Bagay pang-fried rice sa breakfast. πŸ˜€
